Pastor linked to occultism and sexual abuse is held for investigation

Police in Tigania West have been given ten days to arrest a local pastor suspected of running a cult and committing sexual abuse. Pastor Daniel Mururu of the East African Pentecostal Church of Kenya – Kianjai branch – was produced before a local court, where authorities asked for time to complete their investigation.

The case came to light after an arson attack in the area. It was initially thought to be related to a land dispute. However, police investigations revealed a darker motive.

“Initial investigations revealed that the arson was not, as initially suspected, the result of a land dispute, but a consequence of the anger of the local population over the behavior of the pastor, the church elders and the ushers,” a police spokesman said.

The allegations against Pastor Mururu and his staff are deeply disturbing. According to police reports, “the pastor allegedly ordered women and girls to be stripped naked, their pubic hair shaved, their breasts sucked and to have sex with the said women and girls in the church.” These orders were reportedly carried out by church elders and ushers.

The investigation has already uncovered several victims. “More than seven women, aged between 17 and 70, also claim to have fallen victim to the pastor and his church elders,” police added. One particularly disturbing case involves a 17-year-old girl who is now five months pregnant.

DCI investigators have also discovered evidence of cult-like activities within the church. “The pastor and elders of the said church are operating a cult to radicalize their followers,” a DCI official said.

Church leadership is said to have used intimidation tactics to try to force obedience by telling followers that they would face “disasters such as disease and infertility” if they did not obey.
