How the Hanseatic city is committed to fair trade and climate change

Every September, Fair Week puts fair trade in the spotlight worldwide. In Rostock, too, from September 13 to 27, the questions will be: What does fair trade have to do with me? And what does fair trade actually have to do with the climate? After all, this year’s Fair Week is calling for “Climate justice! Fair – and not one degree more!”

Another climate action day in Langer Straße

The highlight is always the climate action day: On September 15, Lange Straße will once again be transformed into a colorful adventure mile. Upcycling crafts, games, fun and a musical stage program will be offered. The Fairtrade City of Rostock will be there with a quiz and will give away children’s clothing, says Nicole Gericke, Rostock’s Fairtrade City Coordinator. Lange Straße will be closed to traffic this Sunday.

Exhibition at Rostocker Hof

From September 9th to 20th, the Rostocker Hof will also be offering a look back at the Fashion Revolution Week in MV. An exhibition presents seven inspiring groups and protest actions that last April took a stand for a sustainable approach to clothing and made a statement against fast fashion.

Producer-consumer dialogue in the Südstadt

The Rostock Nutrition Council will be taking a closer look at a regional perspective on fruit and vegetables in the producer-consumer dialogue on September 19th. The question to be discussed is: “How do regional vegetables get to my home?” In a discussion with solidarity farmers and the Regional Market Association, the Südstadt heating house will look at how the local market can be strengthened. All local offers and their backgrounds can be found at fairtradestadt-rostock.de.

Actions for World Cleanup Day in Rostock

The opportunity to actively protect the climate on your own doorstep is offered by World Cleanup Day on September 21st. Garbage will be collected at twelve stations in Rostock between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Anyone can join numerous initiatives to collect garbage on the beaches, the city harbor and in the ramparts. There will be a helper party at the Rost Dommel in the city harbor from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
