Fox sculpture stolen and destroyed in Reinickendorf

Berlin – In Berlin-Reinickendorf one of the new fox sculptures was deliberately destroyed and stolen. District mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner (62, CDU) was horrified.

According to a statement from the district office, the incomprehensible act of vandalism occurred at the Waidmannslust S-Bahn station.

“I strongly condemn this senseless act. Such actions not only harm our district, but also affect the people who have identified with this symbol,” said Demirbüken-Wegner indignantly.

The works of art have quickly become a popular tourist attraction and are also appreciated by the citizens.

The sculptures are “a symbol of the cohesion and identity of our district,” said the mayor. The district office filed a police report against the unknown perpetrator(s).

The fox is the heraldic animal of Reinickendorf. Therefore, since the summer, a colorful fox parade can be admired in public squares and at prominent corners in the Berlin district. The sculptures are the result of a competition that the district office announced at the beginning of the year.
