Who is Marcee Gray? The mother of Georgia school shooter Colt Gray has a long criminal record that includes drug use and was sent to prison last December

Marcee Gray, the mother of 14-year-old Colt Gray, the Georgia school shooter, has a long criminal record that includes domestic violence, drug use and fraud, and was sentenced to prison last December for it. Colt Gray was arrested Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder after opening fire on students and teachers, killing four.

Colt admitted to shooting and said, “It was me” when advised of his Miranda rights. His father, Colin Gray, 54, is accused of buying the AR-15 rifle used by his son. He was arrested Thursday and charged with multiple counts, including second-degree murder, manslaughter and child abuse.

Public records show that Marcee Gray, Colt Gray’s mother, has a long criminal history dating back to 2007. She has recently served time in prison, her most recent arrest being in April, and has been barred from having contact with Colt’s father, Colin, without an intermediary.

Marcee Gray, 43, has a criminal record in four counties in the state of Georgia, including charges related to drug abuse, domestic violence, criminal damage and civil fraud.

On November 6, 2023, she was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and muscle relaxants, but she was only charged with vehicle fraud.

In December, Marcee pleaded guilty to using a license plate to conceal her identity, as well as criminal damage and domestic trespass after using a license plate from a Nissan Kicks to conceal the identity of her Nissan Rogue.

According to the AJC, Marcee, who is listed on LinkedIn as a senior quality engineer at a local factory, was eligible for a Georgia state law that allows certain defendants to plead guilty without a conviction.

Marcee was sentenced to five years in prison on December 21, ordered to pay $1,500 in restitution to an Atlanta construction company and to forbid him from having any contact with Colin.

However, Marcee only served 46 days in jail before the remainder of her sentence was commuted to probation. During her probation, she was required to attend a domestic violence intervention program and abstain from drugs and alcohol.

Criminal mother, criminal family

On April 12, Marcee was again charged with aggravated assault. She was accused of attacking a 73-year-old woman by throwing her against a wall, wrapping her hands and feet in duct tape, and breaking a bathroom mirror. She was also charged with theft, false imprisonment, trespassing, and failure to appear.

Marcee’s criminal record also includes traffic violations from 2019, a speeding ticket in 2014, and previous traffic violations from 2007.

The most severe punishment she faced was 12 months probation and 40 hours of community service. A local Chevrolet dealer charged her with civil fraud, alleging that she purchased a 2018 Suburban with a $10,000 check made out to her and Colin’s names that “bounced due to insufficient funds.”

These revelations come after Gray’s father, 54-year-old Colin, was arrested by local authorities on charges including two counts of murder, four counts of manslaughter and eight counts of child abuse.

Officials announced in a press conference that these charges are related to Colin’s alleged act of “knowingly” giving his son access to the gun used in the shooting. Gray received the gun he used to kill four people at his Georgia high school as a Christmas gift from his father, months after the FBI questioned her about alleged threats.

Colin Gray told authorities he bought the gun as a Christmas present for his son. He has not yet made any public comments about the shooting.

This happened, according to investigators, just months after both the teenager and his father were questioned by local police because of online threats about a possible school shooting on the gaming social media platform Discord.

The teenager was questioned after the sheriff received a tip from the FBI that Gray, then 13, may have threatened to carry out a school shooting. The threat was made on Discord, which is popular among gamers, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The FBI tip linked the threat to a Discord account linked to an email address associated with Colt Gray, but the boy claimed “he would never say such a thing, even in jest,” the investigator’s report said.

In the transcript of the interview, the teenager is quoted as saying, “I promise I would never say anything where…”, with the rest of this denial reported as inaudible.

The investigator noted that no arrests were made due to “inconsistent information” about the Discord account. The account had profile details in Russian and a digital footprint that suggested it was accessed from various locations in Georgia as well as Buffalo, New York.
