McNamara | “It’s an opportunity to put things right” | Women’s first team | News

Dan McNamara wants his players to focus on getting a result rather than the occasion when Wolves Women travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on Sunday.

Although he is looking forward to proving himself at the Clarets’ main stadium, the manager wants it to be business as usual when it comes to battling for all three points. He says the team have trained well this week following last weekend’s disappointing result against Nottingham Forest. McNamara can call on the services of captain Anna Morphet, who is no longer suspended, and the Old Gold boss has provided further squad updates ahead of Sunday’s game.

Another difficult test

“It’s one of the toughest games in the league again. It’s not ideal after our performance last weekend, but we see it as a chance to put things right on a prestigious pitch and we’re really looking forward to the occasion.”

“We have trained well this week and learned from our mistakes. We want to put in a great performance that the fans, families and everyone in the football club can be proud of. If we can do that, we have a great chance of getting a result.”

On the composition of the team

“It’s fantastic to welcome back Beth Merrick and Destiney Toussaint. They’ve had a full week of training, which is crucial to getting back up to speed.

“We have a few ailments ourselves and of course we have Abi Loydon missing through suspension, but we welcome back Anna Morphet, the club captain, which is great.”

On this occasion at Turf Moor

“We are excited and looking forward to the day. We don’t just want to play at Turf Moor, we want to win – there are points worth fighting for.”

“We’ve had a good start to the season and after this week I’d say we’ve probably played against two of the strongest teams in the league. Now we can focus on what we need to do and understand the task ahead of us if we want to compete with teams like that.”

“It will be a pleasure to coach a team on such a fantastic pitch. Hopefully the fans will follow us and we can hear them being loud and proud like they did last weekend.”
