Doug Emhoff says he has never won a debate against Kamala Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, were both successful lawyers before entering politics, and Emhoff said in a new interview with “Pod Save America” that their debates as a couple could be reminiscent of a courtroom.

In an episode released Thursday, “Pod Save America” co-host Tommy Vietor asked Emhoff about the upcoming presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump.

“I assume no one has discussed things with her more than you,” said Vietor. “What can we expect? What should we look out for?”

“I haven’t won one yet,” Emhoff said of the debate with Harris.

Emhoff further described Harris as a “great debater” and “a first-class litigator.”

“It’s not like we’re debating, but I realize that any really good lawyer will set little traps for you as the conversation goes on. And when I have this discussion about a matrimonial matter, I say, ‘Oh, that’s what you do!'” he said. “I was a pretty good litigator, too.”

Before entering politics, Harris served as district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California, while Emhoff was a partner at DLA Piper in Los Angeles, specializing in intellectual property and entertainment and media law. In August, Harris and Emhoff celebrated their 10-year anniversary at the Democratic National Convention, where Harris accepted the presidential nomination.

She will face Trump in a debate hosted by ABC News on September 10. The campaign teams have been trading jabs as they negotiate the network and the rules of the debate, such as whether their microphones will not be muted.

“It’s Donald Trump, so who the hell knows what you’re going to get, but I know she’s going to talk about us, she’s going to talk about the American people,” Emhoff said.
