Kolkata rape and murder: TMC MP Jawhar Sircar resigns; CBI accuses Sandip Ghosh of having criminal nexus with RG Kar

TMC MP Jawhar Sircar wrote in a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee: “I sincerely thank you for giving me the great opportunity to represent the problems of West Bengal as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, but I must inform you that I have decided to resign from Parliament and also from politics altogether.”

Sircar further stated, “Although I performed my duties in Parliament with zeal, I became increasingly disillusioned as the state government did not seem to care about the corruption and increasing harsh tactics of a section of politicians.”

Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of West Bengal on Sunday as part of several demonstrations, including another “Reclaim the Night” protest that took place on August 14 and September 4.

Eminent personalities from various fields, including musicians, artists, painters and actors, would take part in the “Reclaim the Night” demonstration, which would begin at 11 p.m., “to wake up the ruler,” said social activist Rimjhim Sinha.

As part of the demonstration, people would gather at various junctions, crossings and roundabouts. While there will be multiple gatherings from Gol Park to Garia along SC Mallick Road in south Kolkata, a march is planned from Sodepur to Shyambazar along BT Road in the north, one of the organisers told PTI.
