Oldenburg/Lübeck – The Oldenburg Knights’ relegation in the GFL2 will only be decided in the catch-up game next Saturday. On Sunday, the relegated team of head coach Sebastian Blase beat the Lübeck Cougars 26:18, celebrating their second win of the season in the second-highest German American football league. “We’ve now taken our first step, we’ve been talking about it all week,” said a satisfied Blase: “That was our first playoff game. The situation in the GFL2 is complicated. Even before the party in Lübeck, it was clear that the Oldenburgers would only have a chance of staying in the league with a win. But that is still possible. To do so, the Blase team must win the newly scheduled party at the Cottbus Crayfish on Saturday (4 p.m.). Then Oldenburg would overtake both Cottbus and Bielefeld, would have the necessary two teams behind them and thus managed to stay in the league. In Cottbus, a narrow win is enough for the Knights to stay in the league, the margin is not important. Because Oldenburg would then be ahead of Cottbus (2) in the table with the greater number of wins (3). Bielefeld would be the second team to be relegated, because if Oldenburg won, the East Westphalians would be in the worst position in the three-way comparison Lübeck – Oldenburg – Bielefeld that would then apply.

The catch-up game in Cottbus is the last one of the GFL2 season. All other teams have already played their duel. The game in Brandenburg was rescheduled after it was abandoned at the beginning of June due to a storm.
