National Council election 2024: The top candidates of the Madeleine Petrovic list in Vienna

For the first time, the Madeleine Petrovic (LMP) list is running in the National Council elections. A list for Vienna was also submitted. The first three places are occupied by Nora Summer, Harald Haas and Peter Weish.

VIENNA. On the last Sunday in September, Austria will elect a new National Council. A total of 183 seats will be awarded. In addition to the federal constituencies, there are also state lists and regional constituencies.

For the first time, the list of the former Green Party leader is fighting for a seat in the National Council across the country. Madeleine PetrovicUnder the motto “Courage instead of fear”, 13 people, including three women, are running for the Madelaine Petrovic (LMP) list in Vienna. Nora Summers

Among the three women is Nora Summerswho is also the LMP’s top candidate for Vienna. After training at the University of Music and Performing Arts and the Vienna Circus Academy, Summer worked as a performing artist, cabaret artist, artist, author and speaker. In addition, she has been a stuntwoman for film and television for many years, according to her own statements, including in “Mission Impossible 5”, “Inspector Rex”, “Soko Donau” and “Die Vorstadtweiber”. She has been a member of the “Green Association for Fundamental Rights & Freedom of Information” (GGI) around Petrovic since 2022 and lives in Klosterneuburg.

Harald Haas

Second place on the state list is political scientist and psychologist Harald Haaswho lives in Keutschach am See (Klagenfurt-Land). After graduating from high school, the 59-year-old worked for many years as an officer in the Austrian Federal Army and as an official in the Foreign Ministry. For 30 years he has worked as a scientist at the Vienna National Defense Academy with a particular interest in mass psychology, political psychology, security policy, leadership and conflict management.

Peter Weish

The 88-year-old scientist, author and environmental activist Peter Weish is in third place. He studied biology, chemistry and physics at the University of Vienna and has been an avowed opponent of nuclear power since 1969. He is also seen as the father of the Austrian anti-nuclear movement and was also the spokesman for the 1987 referendum on genetic engineering. In his career, Weish has worked at the Institute for Environmental Sciences and Nature Conservation at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna and at the University of Vienna. He has also received a number of awards, including the Golden Medal of Merit of the State of Vienna in 2006, the Austrian Nature Conservation Prize in 2013 and the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art of the First Class a year before that.
