Should you buy an iPhone 15 now?

Anyone who has bought from Apple needs the right budget. The cheap version of the iPhone 15 cost 949 euros when it was launched in 2023. This made the device cheaper than the iPhone 14, which costs at least 999 euros, but still close to the 1,000 euro mark. The good news: the models in the 15 series have long been available for less. At some eBay dealers, you only pay around 700 euros for the new device. On Mydealz, users have discovered even cheaper prices. No coincidence. Since the start of sales, the price curve of the iPhone 15 has been pointing downwards on comparison platforms such as Idealo or Geizhals.

In the next few weeks, the price of last year’s model could even fall further. On September 9, 2024, Apple finally introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. They will be available from September 20. If you look closely at the curves at Idealo and Co., you will see that the iPhone 14 was already available for around 650 euros around the launch of the successor model. It is also possible that this will also apply to the iPhone 15 in the coming days.

When is the iPhone 15 not worth it?

The question is: is the deal even worth it? After all, bargain hunters can not only save money this fall, they also have to forego a few things when making a purchase. Gamers cannot play the console versions presented by Apple and various publishers on the iPhone 15, among other things. Games like Resident Evil Village Or Assassin’s Creed Mirage Assume the “A17 Pro” or a newer processor. The A17 Pro is only available in the iPhone 15 Pro (Max), the iPhone 16 models come with the A18, the Pro versions with the A18 Pro.

The Apple Intelligence AI package will also not be available for the iPhone 15. According to Apple, older hardware is too slow for this. The iPhone 15 finally has a processor from 2022. This makes the device unattractive for price-conscious buyers who still value the latest features.

When you should get the iPhone 15

The case is different if you are not interested in new functions such as an improved Siri or a typing aid for your email inbox. In any case, it is not yet clear whether and when Apple Intelligence will be available in this country. Even when presenting the new devices, Apple did not say a word about a German launch. At the moment, a preview can only be used with a few tricks. So the iPhone must be set to US English. Users must also have a US Apple account. A subscription model for the AI ​​functions is also being considered for the future.

If none of this appeals to you, you might be lucky enough to find a real bargain in the coming weeks (especially on Black Friday or Cyber ​​​​Monday). Because even though you’ll have to do without the features mentioned, Apple will continue to provide the smartphone with new software for a few more years. Other advantages include a strong camera and good battery life.

New features without a horrendous price? The alternatives

If you don’t want to miss out on the new features, but don’t want to spend 950 euros or more on a new iPhone, there’s no way around the iPhone 15 Pro (Max). Its processor is fit for AI and console implementations. You can currently get the Pro outside of eBay for 950 euros and up. If you can do without the original packaging and the “new” status, you can get the smartphone from refurbished providers for around 880 euros. However, you have to bear in mind that the battery may no longer have full capacity. Apple is not currently offering the 15 Pro as a refurbished version.
