A PlayStation Vita successor leak has sparked a little more interest today

Could Sony release a successor to the PlayStation Vita?

There are always rumors, leaks, and speculations about what’s coming to the video game industry market. If a leaker’s report turns out to be true, it can lead to more interest in reading what else they’ve said before. That’s exactly what’s happening online right now with a report about the successor to the PlayStation Vita from earlier this year.

As you probably know, Sony has just unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro. There have been constant rumors and reports about this console for a long time. But just yesterday, Sony confirmed that they would be holding a special technical hardware presentation today. During this presentation, we got our first look at the PlayStation 5 Pro and learned details about it. But we’re not talking about the PlayStation 5 Pro here; this rumor is strictly about Sony’s handheld line.

Thanks to a report by The playerwe get a good reminder of an earlier report from Moore’s Law is dead. The YouTuber took to the internet earlier this year to break down some PlayStation 5 Pro leaks he had heard about. Now that the console is real, people are looking at another comment in that video that referenced a new PlayStation handheld. According to the YouTube video, AMD is actively working on that device for Sony.

At that time, there were no design decisions and it was not even certain whether the device would come to market. If you look at the rumors, Moore’s Law is dead noted that this new device would apparently run the PlayStation 4 lineup natively and have access to PlayStation 5 games if developers patched a compatible version. However, they went on to say that Sony is still a few years away from even preparing this handheld release and that this could therefore be integrated into the PlayStation 6 lineup.

If that’s true, Nintendo could take a leaf out of the Switch platform’s book with this portable device. Gamers could potentially get a portable device that runs Sony’s latest games, albeit at a lower resolution or performance. Moore’s Law is dead compared to the fact that Xbox currently offers a Series S model with lower performance than the Series X.

This would also mean that the successor to the PlayStation Vita would no longer run its own developed games. Instead, this would open up the possibility of playing digital games on both a dedicated console and this portable hybrid. But again, this is just a rumor at the moment. Even Moore’s Law is dead indicates that this device may not be realized.

Regardless, there is a bit more interest in this rumor now that we have an official announcement about the PlayStation 5 Pro. Perhaps next year we will hear some new rumors about this piece of hardware.
