RG Kar case: CBI finds contradictions in autopsy report and Kolkata Police seizure list

Kolkata, September 11 (IANS): While investigating the gruesome rape and murder of a doctor of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has found significant discrepancies in certain details in the autopsy report and the seizure list submitted by the city police.

The Calcutta Police initially conducted the investigation into the case before the central agency took over following a Supreme Court order.

Sources familiar with the incident pointed out that as per regulations, when the body is handed over for autopsy, the police should provide the forensic team with details of the clothes the victim was wearing at the time the body was recovered.

That is where the CBI discovered the discrepancies in the seizure list and the post-mortem report. While the post-mortem report claims that the innerwear was missing, the seizure lists mention jeans and women’s underwear, sources said.

CBI investigators are now wondering whether such contradictions in the autopsy report and the seizure list were simply an act of recklessness or were done intentionally and with ulterior motives.

CBI investigators have already noticed several omissions in the city police’s initial investigation, most recently these contradictions.

The investigating officials are particularly focusing on why the cremation was carried out in a hurry despite the victim’s parents’ request to keep the body for some time, which was also highlighted in the statement issued by Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday evening.

According to the Raj Bhavan, some of the examples that raised doubts in people’s minds about the state’s intentions in the case were: misinforming the victim’s parents, alleged tampering with the crime scene, delay in filing the FIR, hasty disposal of the body disregarding the parents’ wish to keep it at least for that day, transfer and immediate placement of the then principal in another premier medical college and hospital and alleged attempts by the Kolkata Police to cover up the tampering with the crime scene.
