According to research by USA Today, the former running back and 2012 MVP has now accumulated $12 million in debt. What makes it particularly bitter is that he earned over $100 million in his NFL career. Now a judge in Houston has ordered the NFL star to hand over his remaining assets to pay off the debt.

And it gets worse: Police have been ordered to seize assets in Peterson’s home. Peterson is accused of using “sleight of hand” to deceive authorities to avoid paying, according to the USA Today report.

The misery began in 2016! Peterson borrowed $5.2 million from a loan company – through interest and legal fees, the sum grew to $8.3 million by 2021. In February, he was finally $12.5 million in debt.

Peterson played in the NFL until 2021. During his 15-year career, he was not only named MVP, but was also named All-Pro four times and selected to the Pro Bowl seven times.
