Taylor Swift supports “gifted leader” Kamala Harris as US President

Swift, 34, shared the news in a message on Instagram following the presidential debate between Ms Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump in Philadelphia.

The singer, who finished the European leg of her Eras tour last month, captioned her post “Childless Cat Lady,” referring to comments made by Trump’s 2021 running mate JD Vance that recently resurfaced.

She said, “If you haven’t already, now is a good time to learn about the current issues and these candidates’ positions on the issues that matter most to you.

Sharing a photo of herself holding her cat Benjamin Button (taken during a photo shoot for Time magazine last year when the magazine named her Person of the Year), she wrote: “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight.

“As a voter, I make sure to see and read everything I can about their policy proposals and plans for this country.”

The singer mentioned images created using artificial intelligence that Trump allegedly shared on his Truth Social platform, which had previously suggested that she would support him as a presidential candidate, and spoke about the “dangers of spreading misinformation.”

She wrote: “It was recently brought to my attention that a message was posted on his website in which ‘I’ falsely endorsed Donald Trump’s candidacy for president.

“It really reignited my fears around AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that as a voter, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election. The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

She explained her support for Mrs Harris as follows: “In the 2024 presidential election, I will vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a fighter to represent them.

“I consider her to be a calm and gifted leader and I am convinced that we can achieve much more in this country if we are guided by calm rather than chaos.

“I was so encouraged and impressed by her selection of her running mate @timwalz, who has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights to their own bodies for decades.”

She ended her message by saying, “I have done my research and made my choice.

“Your research is entirely up to you and you make the decision. I also want to say to first-time voters in particular: remember that you have to be registered to vote! I also find it much easier to vote early. In my story, I will post links to registration options and dates and information on early voting.”

She signed her message, “With love and hope,” and gave her name, followed by “Childless cat lady.”

Swift recently made history as the first solo artist to perform at Wembley Stadium eight times on a single tour, a record previously held by Michael Jackson on his 1988 Bad Tour.

She was also photographed at the men’s final of the US Open in New York over the weekend with her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce.
