Three 16-year-olds charged in fatal shooting of 15-year-old in Syracuse

Syracuse, NY – Three 16-year-olds have been charged with the murder of 15-year-old Deron McGee, according to a news release from the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.

Torrin Brown, 16, Quinntone Moore, 16, and Uzziah Moore, 16, are charged with second-degree murder and second-degree illegal possession of a weapon, according to online court records. The teens were arraigned Wednesday morning.

McGee was shot in the head around 11 p.m. on August 12 in the 200 block of Westmoreland Avenue, near the intersection with East Fayette Street. The Parkside Commons apartment complex is located near the 2000 block of East Fayette Street.

He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where police said he remained in critical condition for more than a week.

On August 15, McGee was declared brain dead. The Corcoran High School student donated his organs.

“We couldn’t save him. The doctors tried everything they could,” said Natasha Huertas, Deron’s mother, at a vigil. “But he was able to carry on and save others.”
