Bihar police arrest accused in BJP politician’s murder case

Patna, September 11 (IANS): Bihar Police claimed to have solved the murder case of BJP leader Munna Sharma by arresting one of the accused, Karan Kumar, on Wednesday.

Munna Sharma, the former Mandal president of the BJP, was shot dead by three assailants on motorcycles in Patna City Chowk area at around 4:30 am on September 9.

The entire incident was recorded on video surveillance, which led to police investigations with the aim of identifying and arresting the perpetrators.

Roshan Kumar, the District Police Officer of Patna district, confirmed the arrest of Karan Kumar and mentioned that he had already committed criminal activities in the past.

“The murder of Munna Sharma was orchestrated by Sunny Malik, a neighbour of the deceased who had an ongoing dispute with him. Sunny Malik is said to have hired Karan Kumar and another criminal to carry out the murder as part of his plan to eliminate Munna Sharma,” Roshan Kumar said.

During the investigation, the Patna Police officer said that the crime was carefully planned by Sunny Malik.

As part of the plan, Malik arranged for a stolen bike to be used in the crime. On the morning of September 9, Munna Sharma was on his way to hire an autorickshaw for his relatives when three assailants approached him on motorcycles. One of the pillion riders shot Sharma in the neck and fled the scene.

Sharma’s family members took him to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The bike used in the murder was stolen from Karbigahiya village near Patna Junction railway station on September 7. After the crime, the attackers left the bike at another location.

Rural SP Roshan Kumar emphasised the crucial role of CCTV footage in solving the case.

“The cameras captured the suspects committing the crime and getting off the motorcycle. Karan Kumar, one of the accused, has been arrested. He has a history of criminal activities including a murder in 2021 and involvement in liquor smuggling. The police are actively searching for the other two suspects involved in the crime,” he said.
