OMAHA, Nebraska (KETV) — A Northwest High School 10th grader spoke with KETV NewsWatch 7’s Sean MacKinnon outside the school after a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Tuesday.

“I was in the cafeteria. It was the third lunch period, and suddenly I saw a whole group of kids running through the halls. I wondered what was going on, and they said it was a shooting. But we didn’t hear anything, and when that happened, they told us to hide. And everyone was scared. People were crying. People were comforting other people,” Karma said.

She said she hid in the room where the lunch staff serves food.

She described what she felt in those moments.

“I was scared, but at the same time I just wanted to go home because I knew nothing would have happened because they were there to protect us,” Karma said.

According to authorities, the shooting was probably an isolated incident between two students.

Omaha police confirmed that a 15-year-old was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

“A person believed to be the suspect” was taken into custody, authorities said.

“I’m glad to be alive. It could have been much worse,” Karma said.

Omaha police said the meeting point for parents and students will be at the football stadium west of the school.
