On September 12th at 11am, the alarm channels will be tested nationwide. The annual ritual ensures that all citizens are reached in the event of an emergency. For several years now, warnings via iPhone, Apple Watch, etc. have also been part of this. We’ll show you how to mute the alarm.

This is already the fourth nationwide warning day of this kind. At 11 a.m., church bells and sirens will be sounded, as well as electronic devices such as the iPhone or Apple Watch. The warning via the Cell Broadcast mobile service will be used for the second time.

No all-clear for iPhone and Apple Watch

All participating districts can decide individually whether sirens and loudspeaker trucks will also warn in addition to the warning via cell broadcast. At around 11:45 a.m., an all-clear signal will be issued via all common warning devices. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs, however, this will not happen via cell broadcast.

“Our warning systems save lives in an emergency,” explains Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in a press release. However, anyone who will not be disturbed on the warning day or has an important appointment can simply switch off the relevant devices such as the iPhone or Apple Watch or put them into flight mode.
