Man dead after shooting involving Tempe police on Thursday

TEMPE, AZ – A fatal shooting involving Tempe police officers is under investigation.

On Thursday, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police received a 911 call from someone who reported being “disturbed” by a suspect near Priest Drive and Baseline Road.

The caller told police the suspect threatened him with a gun.

When officers arrived, the victim identified the suspect and officers were able to locate him at his nearby residence.

Officials say officers contacted the man at his residence but then moved further away for safety reasons. Once officers were outside, the man allegedly exited the residence and then re-entered. He exited the residence a second time and pointed a gun at officers, according to Tempe police.

Two police officers fired their weapons at the man. He was hit and pronounced dead at the scene. He was only identified as a man in his forties.

No officers were injured.
