Second presidential debate with Harris rejected by Donald Trump

Second presidential debate with Harris rejected by Donald Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris, on the other hand, says she and Trump “owe” the public another debate.

Donald Trump said he will not participate in a second presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Despite earlier comments by the former president’s campaign team that he would have three debates with Harris, Trump now says that since he “clearly” won Tuesday’s debate, there is no need for a rematch, BBC News reports.

“When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I want a rematch,'” Trump wrote in a post shared on his Truth Social platform on Thursday (Sept. 12). “Polls clearly show that I won the debate against my comrade Kamala Harris, the radical left Democratic candidate… and she immediately demanded a second debate.”

According to several polls conducted immediately after Tuesday night’s debate, voters believe Harris performed better than Trump. During a campaign rally in North Carolina shortly after the debate, Harris responded to Trump’s comments that she should “focus” on her job as vice president.

Harris said the pair “owe” voters a second debate, noting that “what’s at stake couldn’t be more important.” Currently, polls show a neck-and-neck race between Trump and Harris as Election Day approaches.

“Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is it Donald Trump?” Harris’ campaign team said, reiterating that they were looking forward to another duel with the former president after Tuesday night’s back-and-forth.

During the event, Trump caused a furore on social media with his comments about “Haitian migrants eating pets” in Springfield, Ohio, and his view that abortions can be performed even after a baby is born. In an interview with Fox News the morning after the debate, Trump called the debate “rigged” and suggested that after his “great night,” he had no desire to face his opponent on a debate floor again.

Although the Trump and Harris campaign teams have reportedly held talks about holding another debate on NBC News on September 25, the network has neither officially confirmed the news nor commented on Trump’s opposition to another debate.
