No injuries in shooting at Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) – A shooting at Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe on Friday left shoppers fearful and some hiding inside stores.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the mall near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road.

Police said there was no active use of firearms and no one was injured. Officers initially spoke of a “shooting incident.”

Dozens of police officers and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office officers arrived on the scene and blocked various exits from the mall.

Two teenagers said they had to hide out of fear.

“We just saw people running down the hallway, went into the back room and heard shots being fired in the dining room,” one said.

“I was just scared. I saw people running, so I freaked out. I didn’t know what was going on, so I just hid back there,” the other said.

It is unclear what led to the shooting or where in the mall it occurred.

An investigation is ongoing.
