Formula 1 2024 on TV and live stream: RTL celebrated comeback

The fact that Formula 1 is available again on RTL is made possible by a cooperation with Sky. The pay-TV broadcaster has the exclusive rights to the TV broadcast. The partnership is set to last for two years. Qualifying, sprint and races are broadcast on free TV on seven race weekends each year. The streaming provider RTL+ is broadcasting seven selected races this year. However, this service is subject to a fee.

Results from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

It is already the 17th race for the Formula 1 professionals. You can find out how the Formula 1 professionals fare at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku here in the results ticker.

+++ 14.09.2024: Fourth Baku pole in a row for Leclerc – Verstappen sixth +++

Charles Leclerc has secured pole position for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix for the fourth time in a row. In the Formula 1 qualifying on the street circuit in Baku, the Monegasque relegated the Australian McLaren driver Oscar Piastri to second place in his Ferrari. Third place went to Carlos Sainz from Spain in his second Ferrari.

After Leclerc’s victory almost two weeks ago at the Scuderia’s home race in Monza, the traditional team should have high hopes of its second race win within 14 days. George Russell in the Mercedes came fourth in qualifying, followed by Sergio Pérez, before his Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen came sixth.

World Championship pursuer Lando Norris was eliminated in the first knockout phase. He did not have a good lap, raced over the curbs and was then stopped after a yellow phase. The result: only 17th place on the grid this Sunday (1:00 p.m. CET/Sky and RTL) at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Nico Hülkenberg will start from 14th place in his Haas.

+++ 14.09.2024: Before qualifying: Russell just ahead of Leclerc in Baku +++

George Russell set the fastest lap in the Mercedes in the last free Formula 1 practice session before qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Briton beat Charles Leclerc, who had set the fastest time of the day in the Ferrari on Friday, to second place by 13 thousandths of a second. Leclerc has taken pole position on the Baku circuit for the past three years.

Behind Russell and Leclerc, World Championship runner-up Lando Norris came in third in his McLaren. Fourth place went to his Australian teammate Oscar Piastri, who is expected to help his team rival in the fight for the World Championship title against leader Max Verstappen.

Norris is 62 points behind three-time champion Verstappen, who finished fifth in his Red Bull during the one-hour session. McLaren is only eight points behind Red Bull in the team standings.

The one-hour training session on the narrow and demanding course, where Nico Hülkenberg finished 16th, had to be interrupted twice. First, a defect stopped the Alpine of Frenchman Esteban Ocon, and later Oliver Bearman demolished the left front calf of his Haas.

The Briton – who will be a regular driver for the US team next year – is standing in alongside Hülkenberg this weekend for the suspended Kevin Magnussen. The Dane collected more penalty points last season than are allowed.

+++ 13.09.2024: Leclerc sets the best time of the day in Formula 1 training in Baku +++

Monza winner Charles Leclerc can also hope for success at the Formula 1 guest appearance in Baku. After an accident at the start, the Ferrari driver still managed to set the best time on the first day of training in Azerbaijan. Last year’s winner Sergio Pérez in the Red Bull came in second, just six thousandths of a second behind, ahead of Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton.

World champion Max Verstappen had to settle for sixth place in the daily standings. The Red Bull driver has been waiting for another victory for six races.

In the first practice session, the 26-year-old world championship leader drove the fastest lap. However, there were three interruptions due to accidents and debris on the track. Just a few minutes after the start of the practice laps, the race management turned the lights back to red because car parts were lying on the track.

Shortly afterwards, Leclerc crashed his Ferrari into the track barrier and was unable to continue. The third forced break followed when Williams youngster Franco Colapinto lost control of his car and had the next accident.

The second training session was accident-free. Because the teams focused on race preparation and experimented with different tires and fuel quantities, the results are only partially meaningful.

Before the 17th of 24 races of the season on Sunday (1 p.m./RTL and Sky), the Dutchman Verstappen leads the World Championship with a 62-point lead over the British McLaren driver Lando Norris. In the constructors’ championship, McLaren could already take the lead in Azerbaijan. The traditional British team is eight points behind the defending champion Red Bull.

+++ 13.09.2024: Verstappen fastest in the first Baku training +++

World champion Max Verstappen drove the fastest lap in the turbulent opening training session of Formula 1 in Baku. The first practice session on the street circuit in Azerbaijan had to be interrupted three times due to accidents and debris on the track. Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton finished the training in second place. Verstappen’s Red Bull team-mate Sergio Pérez came in third, ahead of McLaren driver Lando Norris.

Just a few minutes after the start of the practice laps, the race management turned the lights back to red because car parts were lying on the track. Shortly afterwards, Charles Leclerc crashed his Ferrari into the track barrier and was unable to continue. The third forced break followed when Williams youngster Franco Colapinto lost control of his car and had the next accident.

Before the Grand Prix on Sunday (1 p.m./Sky), the Dutchman Verstappen leads the World Championship with a 62-point lead over the Briton Norris. However, the Red Bull team has recently been in a form crisis. McLaren could already take the lead in the constructors’ championship in Azerbaijan. The traditional British team is eight points behind the defending champion Red Bull.
