In addition to local hero Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz are also eligible to compete in Turin.

Thanks to a strong first half of the year, crowned by winning the Australian Open, Jannik Sinner was the first player to qualify for the ATP Finals. The 23-year-old impressively compensated for the loss of 400 points from the Masters event in Indian Wells, which were subsequently deducted due to the positive doping tests, with his second major championship at the US Open.

The South Tyrolean also wants to finally lift the big trophy in front of his home crowd. Last year, the world number one reached the final of the ATP Finals, but was defeated by the Serbian Novak Djokovic. As a small compensation, he then took revenge on the Olympic champion in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup Finals, where he was able to lead the Italian team to the title.

Alexander Zverev has the best memories of the ATP Finals. The 27-year-old from Hamburg triumphed at the season-ending tournament in 2018 and 2021 and will do everything he can this year to have a say in his third crown. Despite his disappointing exit in the quarterfinals of the US Open against the American Taylor Fritz, the Olympic champion from Tokyo is at his career high in second place and already has enough points to be sure of a place in Turin again.

Carlos Alcaraz can also console himself after his early exit with the fact that he is already guaranteed a place in the ATP Finals. So far, the final tournament has not been a great success for the world number three. In 2022, the Spaniard was there and was honored as world number one at the end of the season, but was unable to compete due to an injury. Last year, he made it to the semifinals after an opening loss to Zverev, but was defeated by eventual winner Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic still has to deliver in terms of points in order to be able to defend his title in Turin. The Serb is currently ranked 9th in the “Race to Turin” after his early exit at the US Open. However, Alex de Minaur (8th place) and Andrey Rublev (7th place), who are directly ahead of him, only have a very small point advantage, which is why the 37-year-old is expected to compete. Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud, who are ranked 4th to 6th, are almost certain to be there.

Here is the current status of the “Race to Turin”
