Protest breaks out outside CBI office as arrested police officer is taken for medical examination | News from India

Several people demonstrated outside the CBI office here in CGO complex on Sunday morning when investigators took Abhijit Mondal, officer-in-charge of Tala police station, who was arrested in the rape and murder case of RG Kar Hospital paramedic, for a routine medical examination.

The protesters gathered outside the CGO complex, carrying placards and posters and shouting slogans demanding justice for the doctor and criticising the police for their handling of the investigation before the CBI took over the case.

Mondal, who was arrested on Saturday night in connection with the Central agency’s investigation into the RG Kar Hospital incident, will be produced before the Sealdah court on Sunday.

CBI investigators were seen jostling with the protesters as they left the CGO complex with Mondal.

Mondal was arrested on charges including fabricating evidence and delaying registration of FIR, an official said.

The body of the doctor was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting the investigation into the rape and murder of the doctor on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
