When is the next F1 race and where will it take place?

For the 2024 F1 season, the F1 calendar has been expanded to 24 races – a record. This makes the calendar fuller than ever.

We have now passed the halfway point of the 2024 F1 season and the season is now entering the home straight as we approach the decisive finish in both World Championship battles.

Which race is next on the F1 calendar?

Round 18: Singapore Grand Prix

Next up on the F1 calendar is the Singapore Grand Prix, the sport’s first night race, which was added to the calendar in 2008. This is when drivers prepare for one of the most physically demanding races of the year.

Qatar has now joined Singapore in this accolade, but it is widely recognised within the driving community that Singapore is the race that drivers prepare for fitness-wise all season.

Although the track layout has been adjusted during ongoing construction work and the number of corners reduced from 23 to 19, the track remains one of the biggest challenges of the season.

And with a four-week “autumn break” following this race, victory will prove important for the final sprint of the season.

When does the Singapore Grand Prix take place?

The Singapore Grand Prix will take place from Friday, September 20th to Sunday, September 22nd. The race starts at 8pm local time. [1pm BST] on Sunday, September 22, 2024.

Where will the Singapore Grand Prix take place?

The Marina Bay Circuit has been considered the most physically demanding race track on the calendar since its inception for the sport – and for good reason.

Although it is a night race in Singapore, the heat and humidity combined with the low speed of the track and the numerous corners make for a long lap that puts the drivers under enormous pressure.

Even without the safety cars guaranteed almost every year, the race would be close to the permitted two-hour limit, but in this toughest of races, drivers can lose up to 3 kg of weight. [or half a stone, in imperial measures] gained weight just through racing.

The infamous “Singapore Sling” triple chicane has long since disappeared, but the essential features of the track have remained.

The Singapore Grand Prix puts a driver’s every skill to the test, with the track taking in the city’s Anderson Bridge as well as a variety of low, medium and high speed corners.

Is the Singapore Grand Prix an F1 sprint weekend?

No, the sprint format will not be used at the Singapore Grand Prix. The next sprint edition will take place in October at the US Grand Prix in Austin.

A complete overview of the sprint format can be found here.
