New rain and rising water levels expected

New rain and rising water levels expected

The flood situation in Bavaria remains tense in some places – and more rain is forecast. The situation in the affected areas did not change much during the night, police headquarters reported. However, there is no all-clear for the time being: the Flood Intelligence Service (HND) expected the rainy start to the week to lead to further increases in water levels.

However, there is no need to fear flooding like in June. Among other things, the HND expects the water levels of the Danube near Passau, the Vils near Vilshofen and the Isar near Munich to rise again. From Wednesday onwards, the situation should gradually ease.

The German Weather Service (DWD) is expecting continuous rain from the Alps to the foothills until Tuesday. Precipitation amounts of 40 to 70 litres per square metre are possible in widespread areas, and even up to 90 in areas with heavy rainfall.

On Monday, the forecast predicts heavy rainfall in southern Bavaria. Above the Danube, dry periods are also possible. Tuesday will start with a similar amount of rain, but it will clear up from the northeast around midday. On Wednesday, the DWD is expecting a mix of sun and clouds. However, it could rain again in the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will be between 16 and 24 degrees.
