MP Kevin Hollinrake hosts debate on Ryedale travel sites

Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, moderated a debate in Parliament on planning policy and enforcement relating to Traveller camps.

Speaking in Wednesday’s debate, he took the opportunity to alert the Government to the particular concerns surrounding the sites at Sheriff Hutton and Rillington.

He said: “On some applications, our communities do not understand why planning policy is not being monitored on an equal footing and there is a lot of anger about this. That is the case with a number of applications, including one at Sheriff Hutton, one near Rillington and a number of other potential applications.”

On behalf of the government, Matthew Pennycook, MP and Minister of State for Housing and Planning, pledged to “continue to engage on this issue”.

Leaving the debate, Mr Hollinrake said: “I am delighted to be able to bring this important debate to Parliament and to raise some of the issues arising from Traveller sites in my constituency. I hope that the Government will continue to work with North Yorkshire Council and myself and that we will soon see some helpful changes in this area.”
