Laughter at the behavior of “nervous” owners on their dog’s first day at daycare

Every parent knows how difficult it can be to drop off their child at daycare and constantly wonder how they are doing. As it turns out, this is true for dog owners too.

When dog owners Mikayla Zaglaniczny, 29, and her husband Jesse brought their golden retriever Sawyer to daycare, they didn’t know what to expect. The Michigan couple hoped he would settle into a good routine and get along with his new classmates, but like most parents, they were nervous that first day.

Zaglaniczny said Newsweek that she kept wondering how he was doing, but luckily, the Hudsonville dog daycare has a solution to ease any worries. Owners can watch what their dogs are doing via a live feed for as long as they want, and that’s exactly what Zaglaniczny did because she “couldn’t look away.”

“Sawyer had his first daycare experience on August 31. He had an interview appointment at the doggy daycare and we had to leave him there for at least three hours so they could assess how he interacted with the staff and other dogs,” she said.

“I had plans with one of my friends that day, but I ended up postponing our plans because I wanted to watch the live broadcast. My husband and I probably watched it for a full hour before I had to tear myself away from the couch.”

After a while, Jesse switched channels and turned on football instead, but that didn’t stop them from checking their phones to see how Sawyer was doing.

Seeing their pup on the live broadcast was a huge selling point for the couple, and they love seeing how well cared for he is.

“I was nervous the whole time, but it calmed me down to see him wagging his tail all day,” Zaglaniczny said.

After this great start at daycare, Sawyer has been there a few more times and his owners plan to send him there once a week so he can get rid of his excess energy. On the days he’s with friends, there’s no doubt what will be on the TV at home.

The TikTok reaction

Zaglaniczny posted a video on TikTok (@mikaylaryan) of the devoted owners watching Sawyer live on his first day. The caption under the clip jokingly read, “We’ll be here all day.”

The video has captivated social media users. Since it was posted on August 31, it has already garnered over 75,300 views and more than 7,000 likes on TikTok.

And it’s not just Sawyer’s owners who do this. Many other owners know the problem of trying to keep an eye on their four-legged friend while he’s at daycare.

“It was so sweet to see other people sharing their experiences with the dog daycare. Dog people are the best,” said Zaglaniczny Newsweek.

“We decided to take Sawyer to daycare so he could get some of his energy out on days when we are particularly busy. The staff tell us that Sawyer is a great lover, loves pets and is doing very well. They have been so kind and accommodating and we appreciate all the love and attention they give our boy.”

Among the comments on the viral TikTok post, many people praised the dedicated couple for caring so much for their dog, and others joked that they would do the same.

One comment reads: “I would never get anything done on daycare days if my daycare had a camera. I would love to watch her play with her best friends all day.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Okay, so this is normal and not just me – thanks.”

“Mine has an app and I have to force myself not to look at it. I’m the one with the separation anxiety lol,” joked another commenter.

While one person replied: “I did this at work on my second screen.”
