Women 1 and Men 1 lose against HC Sulzbach

The handball players of HV Oberviechtach got off to a bad start in the new season. Both the men’s 1st and the women’s 1st teams played at HC Sulzbach for the opening match. Both teams had to return home as losers.

In the men’s game, the numerous spectators in the Krötensee Hall in Sulzbach were treated to a fast and good district league encounter from the kick-off, according to a press release from HV Oberviechtach. Both teams put a lot of pressure on their respective defenses from the start, which resulted in a quick sequence of goals.

Home team starts better

The moderators got off to a slightly better start (7:9 from HV’s perspective after eleven minutes), then Oberviechtacher had a slight advantage in the following period (17:14; 19:17 from HV’s perspective). Unfortunately, Streit’s men could not take this lead into the dressing room (20:20 at halftime).

As in the first half, the HC came out of the locker room better and was able to pull ahead again (27:31, 43rd minute). The reasons for this weak phase are on the one hand the poorer defensive work and on the other hand too little team play in attack. Streit’s protégés tried to get back into the action as the game progressed, but the home team had the better answers (34:38; 34:40).

After 60 minutes, the score was 35:41 from Oberviechtach’s perspective. HV coach Martin Streit was only satisfied with the first 30 minutes, “where his team showed really good handball.” At the start of the second half, his men will fall back into the pattern of the previous season: excessive individual play with too few goals, too passive defense and retreat behavior. Despite a lot of fighting spirit, they ended up with no points.

Next Sunday at 5 p.m. the next difficult away game awaits the Oberviechtach team. They will face the runner-up from the previous season, TV 1861 Erlangen-Bruck II.

A nervous premiere

The women’s team I of HV Oberviechtach suffered a 12:21 (6:13) defeat in their debut in the Oberliga against HC Sulzbach-Rosenberg. At the beginning, the Fichtenstadt women were tense and had to get used to handling a resin ball. Four goals from the two ex-Oberviechtach players Sophie and Anna Last meant that Mathias Stangl and Claudia Hauser’s protégés quickly fell behind 0:4.

Carina Hauser then scored the first goal for an Oberviechtach senior team in the Oberliga (formerly the Landesliga). The HVlerinnen kept the match completely open until the score was 6:9, before a ten-minute goal drought put the Moderators decisively in the lead (halftime score: 6:13 from Oberviechtach’s perspective).

In the second 30 minutes, the HV’s defense, including goalkeeper Marie Fichtinger, improved, which meant that the Herzogstadt team only managed eight goals in the second period. In attack, however, Mathias Stangl and Claudia Hauser’s team continued to struggle, meaning that the deficit could not be reduced (7:14; 11:18). At the end of the 60 minutes, the score was 12:21 from the Oberviechtach team’s perspective.

The opening 60 minutes brought some important insights for the Fichtenstadt team: “We had a hard time attacking from the start. This was partly due to the HC’s good defense, but also to the fact that we were still unfamiliar with playing with a resin ball.” “We can build on our defensive performance in the second half for the next games,” said Stangl.

On Saturday at 4 p.m. the ladies I will be expecting fellow promoted team TV Roßtal in the home gymnasium hall.
