Season 3 of the “Monster” series: Charlie Hunnam becomes murderer Ed Gein

Season 3 of the “Monster” series: Charlie Hunnam becomes murderer Ed Gein

Starting Thursday, the second installment of the true crime series “Monster” will be making its way to Netflix after “Dahmer”. Even before the new episodes, which revolve around the spectacular murder case involving the Menéndez brothers, are broadcast, news about season three is already emerging – and it’s quite something. According to a report by the American industry website “Deadline”, “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam (44) will play the next “Monster”. The Brit had his first roles as Nathan Maloney in the successful British series “Queer as Folk” (1999-2000), which paved his way to Hollywood.

Ryan Murphy (58), the gay creator of the dark “Monster” anthology series, surprisingly revealed this casting news at the premiere of season two. Murphy also revealed Hunnam’s role: The actor will play Edward “Ed” Gein, one of the most brutal serial killers in American legal history.

Inspiration for numerous Hollywood psychopaths

In the 1950s, Gein was active in the small town of Plainfield in the US state of Wisconsin. His actions eventually earned him the disturbing nickname “Plainfield Ghoul”. In addition to several cases of grave robbery, he was convicted of two proven murders in 1968. However, due to his mental state, Gein was not sent to prison but was placed in a psychiatric hospital, where he died in 1984 from the effects of cancer.

Gein’s crimes became notorious for their unimaginable cruelty. The murderer also served as the model for numerous Hollywood monsters: Gein’s sick relationship with his mother inspired author Robert Bloch (1917-1994) for his novel “Psycho”, which was later made into a film by Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980). Thomas Harris (83) also drew parallels to Gein’s crimes with the character Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb in his bestseller “The Silence of the Lambs”. As did the maker of the 1970s horror film “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre”. In short: The third season of the “Monster” series could also be the most disturbing.

Jeffrey Dahmer kicked things off

And that’s getting a little hotter given the start of the series. The first season dealt with the murders of Jeffrey Dahmer, who mostly found his victims in the gay community. “Dahmer” with Evan Peters (37) in the title role is enjoying great demand on Netflix. At the same time, however, the portrayal of the murderer is causing controversy and not only relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer’s actual victims have criticized the series, such as the mother of Dahmer’s victim Tony Hughes (queer.de reported).

Season two, which started on Thursday, dealt with the couple José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez, played by Oscar winner Javier Bardem (55) and Golden Globe winner Chloë Sevigny (49), who were murdered in 1989. Shortly after the crime, the two sons Lyle and Erik Menéndez became the focus of the investigation, both of whom were later charged and convicted of the double murder. (Spot/CW)
