Lübeck live: Parking Day: Groups want to block parking spaces

“What Lübeck could look like?” Several groups from the city have been working on this for some time and want to show what concrete measures could look like next Friday on Mühlenstraße. As part of the international action day “Parking Day”, a major action is to take place in Lübeck for the first time to show approaches for a promising Lübeck and to invite people to get informed and get involved.

“Lübeck is such a beautiful city. But we are still building so much. There are so many cars in the city center that the charm of the old town houses is lost. Cars are just standing around for an average of 23 hours a day – this space can be used completely differently and life and the cityscape can be made much more beautiful,” says Yola from Psychologists For Future, who are co-organizing Parking Day.

That is why several groups are blocking the parking spaces on Mühlenstraße on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. as a registered event and showing how well the space can be used differently. Among others, the Tram für Lübeck eV association will also introduce itself and inform about its ideas.

Other groups that will be present include Greenpeace and the Bikekitchen Lübeck. The Bikekitchen is a new group that was founded on the market as a result of this year’s climate camp and offers self-repairs for bicycles.

Fridays For Future is calling for a global climate strike. A rally will take place on the Klingenberg from 2 p.m. with speeches, live music and other activities. Among other things, the group will paint a chalk picture. Everyone is welcome to come and make a strong statement together.

The “ArchitekturForumLübeck” association will organize a program on the square on Krähenstraße. Among other things, students will show their ideas for the use of ten square meter areas. The idea of ​​a micro forest will also be presented. There will be live music on Krähenstraße from 12.30 p.m., and a presentation of the projects from 4 p.m.
