Fulda comes away empty-handed: Five start-ups from the Fulda district recently competed against 48 companies in the semi-finals of the Hessian Founders’ Prize. No start-up from the region made it to the final.

Fulda – The final of the Hessian Founders’ Prize on November 1st in Marburg will take place without a start-up from East Hesse. Those responsible for the Founders’ Prize announced this in a press release on Tuesday.

Fulda start-ups miss the final of the Hessian Founders’ Prize

Five start-ups from the Fulda district had qualified for the semi-finals and had entered the competition with diverse business ideas: Erveat (vegan lentil tofu), Haarbanduschi (sustainably produced hairbands “made in Fulda”), kaleidos:code (digital city tours), Play & Code (a programming school for children) and Felix Statt, undertaker from Storch Bestattung (undertaker who digitizes the business and its processes).

Last week, on September 12th, they competed in five-minute pitches before a jury against a total of 48 Hessian companies and were asked critical questions. They did not make it to one of the twelve final places. In retrospect, there is corresponding disappointment among the participants and the Fulda Region Economic Development Agency, which supported the founders.

Despite missing the final, officials see strong start-up scene

“The fact that Fulda will not be represented in the final this time is and will hopefully remain a one-off,” says Florian Albinger, coordinator of the startup scene in the Fulda region. He adds: “Five startup teams, of which we are extremely proud, have finally proven themselves and have grown by the time they reach the semi-finals.” This step alone was worth it for everyone.” Nevertheless, Fulda was able to impress with its ideas, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit.

Albinger concluded: “Our Fulda start-ups have used the stage and platform and will also benefit from it as semi-finalists.”
