A conversation between the German star player and Michael Kohlmann is still pending.

Alexander Zverev’s participation in the Davis Cup finals in Malaga is still open. He has not yet had any contact with national coach Michael Kohlmann since the German team reached the quarterfinals, Zverev confirmed on Wednesday in Berlin. “But that will come,” said the French Open finalist, who will take part in the Laver Cup in the German capital from Friday.

In the past, Zverev had stressed that it was a “big goal” for him to win the Davis Cup one day. However, the late date this season from November 19 to 24 in Andalusia would shorten his recovery phase. Preparations for the new season begin in December, and the Australian Open is already scheduled for January as the first highlight of 2025.

After the successful group phase last week in Zhuhai/China, which Zverev missed, Kohlmann announced talks with his candidates. Jan-Lennard Struff, who had to pull out due to injury, is also among them.

“We will definitely talk here, of course it would be cool, but it’s still a while away,” said Struff in Berlin. “Everyone knows that Sascha loves playing for Germany. But the tournament calendar is extremely full. The decision can’t be made for him. The date at the end of November is “brutal.” Zverev has never been part of the three German finals so far.
