Apple Intelligence in iOS 18: Launch in 2025 on iPhone and iPad also in German

Apple announced today that it will add many more languages ​​to Apple Intelligence (topic) than previously announced. This includes the German language for the first time, which will be supported from next year. But it remains to be seen whether the AI ​​functions will also come to Germany.

Apple had already announced to ComputerBase on Tuesday at an event in Munich that German would be added. The edge In addition, Indian, Singaporean, Italian, South Korean, Portuguese and Vietnamese have also been announced for 2025, which will be available in addition to the already announced supported languages. The company did not give an exact time frame, but it can be assumed that the new languages ​​will be ready by the time the next iPhones are released in September 2025.

Availability still open

However, Apple has not commented on availability. Support for the German language can therefore only be seen as an indication of a German launch for Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad next year. Apple still fears that it could violate the DMA and therefore says it is in consultation with the relevant authorities.

Since many of the languages, such as German, French or Italian, are also spoken outside the EU due to colonial history, a launch in the EU is not directly implied simply by the announcement of the languages.

For macOS, the DMA is not a hurdle: Because Apple does not fall under the DMA with this operating system, Apple Intelligence can start earlier here, but initially only in US English.

Language roadmap overview

Apple has now drawn up a fairly clear and long roadmap for iOS and iPadOS for the coming months. Apple Intelligence will start in US English in October, then other English languages ​​will follow in December. The rest will follow next year. The AI ​​functions will also be rolled out step by step.
