Coco Gauff separates from tennis coach Gilbert

Tennis star Coco Gauff continues without coach Brad Gilbert. But the separation is going well.

America’s tennis star Coco Gauff has ended her collaboration with her coach Brad Gilbert after just over a year. The 2023 US Open champion and the coach announced the separation on social media. As defending champion, Gauff was defeated in the round of 16 by her compatriot Emma Navarro at the US Open in New York in early September.

“Thank you @bgtennisnation! We’ve had an incredible run and I wish you all the best for the future!” wrote the 20-year-old on X (formerly Twitter). After being eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon 2023, Gauff really took off with the help of Gilbert and celebrated her first triumph at a Grand Slam tournament at the 2023 US Open.

Gilbert also thanked Gauff via X for the 14 months of work they had done together. “Coco, at only 20 years old, your future is incredibly promising and I wish you nothing but continued success,” wrote the former professional, who has worked with tennis greats such as Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick. “I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my coaching career.”

Gauff carried the US flag at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris together with basketball superstar LeBron James. In the French capital, the former number two in the tennis world rankings was eliminated early and left without a medal.
