Patrick Mahomes Sr. said a police arrest would “doom” his son, costing the Chiefs the Super Bowl

Patrick Mahomes Sr. tried to use his son’s name to get out of his DWI stop earlier this year… with police video – captured by TMZ Sports — shows the elder Mahomes telling officers multiple times that an arrest would likely cost the Chiefs star and his team Super Bowl LVIII.

This all happened on February 3rd – after authorities in Tyler, Texas stopped Mahomes Sr. on allegations that he was driving a white four-door Genesis without updated registration.

Initially, Mahomes Sr. – wearing a hat with his son’s logo and a “Kansas City Vs. Everybody” sweatshirt – was cooperative and friendly with the police. Police video shows him handing over all the information and documentation officers requested – even passing along an open can of Coors Light that he had in his center console cup holder.

As you can see in the footage, he also admitted to drinking “a few beers” before getting behind the wheel – and remained polite during the subsequent field sobriety test.

However, when police handcuffed him after he appeared to stumble through the tests, his behavior changed significantly.

On the officer’s body camera, Mahomes Sr. can be heard asking, “Are you serious?” … before telling them, “I was supposed to go to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football and this is it, What do we do?”

Seconds later, after being placed in a patrol car, he repeatedly pleaded with police to let him go because of his son and the quarterback’s upcoming Feb. 11 championship game against the 49ers.

“Can I say something?” Mahomes Sr. asked. “My son is getting ready to play in the damn Super Bowl, okay? Just listen to me. I’m not drunk. I promise you that. I had a few drinks. But he can’t have that at the moment.” . Listen, this can’t be happening.”

Mahomes Sr. can be heard telling his arresting officer minutes later: “Dude. That’s crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the damn Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews – five or six a day.” And then, now, there’s going to be this shit on the news that’s going to screw him over, and it’s probably going to screw him over .

“And he probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s okay. If that’s what you all want to do, that’s good.”

Despite Mahomes Sr.’s best efforts, law enforcement still took him to a nearby jail … where officials reportedly blood tests revealed he had a blood sugar level of 0.23.

The 54-year-old was eventually released hours after the arrest … and later that week he attended the Big Game in Las Vegas, where he was able to watch his son beat San Francisco in an overtime thriller.

However, Mahomes Sr. was charged with one Felony count of DWI a third or more – and ultimately received a five-year suspended sentence reach an agreement with prosecutors in late summer.
